A young woman named Becky Kennel, 21, has lived with a heart condition since she was born. This heart condition required a Fontan Surgery which years later resulted in Becky developing Protein Losing Enteropathy (PLE), a rare disease with a 56% mortality rate.

Even with such a dark cloud overhead, Becky was determined to not let it stand in her way. She soon discovered a love for writing, especially fan fiction of her favorite shows, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Pokemon.

Spending days at home with her home health care aid, Becky poured her time and energy into writing stories that reflected how she saw the world. With her empathetic spirit, she wrote about people (well… turtles) that faced the same rejection and loneliness she did and wrote about the redeeming power of family, friendship, and love.

Unfortunately, Becky passed away wrapped in her ninja turtles blanket on June 11th, 2014 at 10:45 due to complications with her medical conditions. She fought until the very last breath with a peace and optimism that seemed superhuman. Many people didn’t see the creative spark or the loving heart of this very special young lady. But the people she did interact with knew they were loved unconditionally. And I, being her big sister, felt the best thing I could do would be to share her stories with the world. Well, BuzzFeed anyway. So here you go, my dearest sister. I love you very much and I hope to see you again someday. Rest in Peace.
