For over a decade, Longhorns fans watched players like Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, Vince Young, and Colt McCoy make winning look easy, setting the precedent that anything less than a 10-win season was unacceptable.
And for nine straight seasons, the Longhorns won ten games or more, taking two trips to the BCS Championship game.
But that tradition no longer exists. In fact, Texas is now more synonymous with the players they failed to sign, like Heisman-winners RG3 and Johnny Manziel, and FSU rising star Jameis Winston, than with victory.
All of whom wanted to play for the Longhorns, but were passed over in favor of recruits Garrett Gilbert and Connor Brewer, who are both no longer with the team.
And then there’s the losses. The Horns have as many losses in the past three seasons as they did from 2001-2009 combined.
Despite this, Mack Brown assured everyone that the team was rebuilding and that this would be the year Texas returned to national championship contention.
And that lasted for exactly one game, as the Longhorns were completely embarrassed in Week 2 by the BYU Cougars, who beat the Horns 40-21 while eclipsing 500 rushing yards.
This was supposed to be the team that made all those losses go away.
This was supposed to be the year that Texas fans could forget about those recruiting mistakes and move on.
This was supposed to be the turnaround team that Mack Brown and the coaches have been building for three years.
What the hell happened? How did this team just lose to BYU? And what are you going to do about it, Mack? Because this shit right here is unacceptable.
Texas is not the whipping boy for national media. Texas is a goddamn powerhouse with its own goddamn network.
Texas does not rebuild; it remains fueled, and it fucking wins.
Texas beats OU and demolishes teams like BYU as if they were breakfast tacos.
Because Texas is not just some team; Texas is THE team. And they need to start playing like it.
And it needs to happen now. This team has no more excuses left. It’s time to put the Horns up or shut up.
Because this should not be a normal reaction this early in the season…
