Kitchen Supply 14-Inch x 16-Inch Aluminum Pizza Peel with Wood Handle

A pizza peel is a shovel-like tool used by bakers to slide loaves of bread, pizzas, pastries, and other baked goods into and out of an oven. It is usually made of wood, with a flat carrying surface (like a shovel’s blade) for holding the baked good and a handle extending from one side of that surface. Alternatively, the carrying surface may be made of sheet metal, which is attached to a wooden handle. The word presumably derives from the French pelle, which describes both a peel and a shovel. There are peels of many sizes, with the length of the handle suited to the depth of the oven, and the size of the carrying surface suited to the size of the food it is meant to carry (for instance, slightly larger than the diameter of a pizza).

Like it was made in a bad high-school shop class This looks like it was made in a high-school shop class by a kid working on her first project. Edges are unfinished and will potentially damage the wood counter on my kitchen island if I rest it there. The blue plastic that is stuck on one side is difficult to remove around the tight spots. The flat metal is not very flat. Also, the riveting is very poorly aligned (SEE PHOTO). Great high quality peel, although I prefer wooden for non-stick. I cook pizzas a few times a week(I know, I’m addicted) and I have both a wooden peel and this aluminum peel. I prefer to have two peels so I can launch a pizza and prep another while the first one is cooking. In my experience the wooden peels are superior non-stick surfaces but since this aluminum is so thin it is great for pulling pizzas out of the oven. They each have their place in my mind. Decent sturdiness and size for the price. A few shortcomings in the fit and finish of the details. I like the sturdy gauge weight of the peel with a long enough handle that I can work with by my 700+ degree temperatures without needing to wear oven mitts, like I did with my prior peel.Downsides: 1) It comes with a scratch-proofing blue plastic film on the top of the peel that the mount is bolted directly atop.
