Disney just dropped the opening credits sequence for its highly anticipated new show Girl Meets World, the spinoff of the ’90s cult hit Boy Meets World. And if it’s any indicator of what’s to come, we may be in trouble.
Don’t get us wrong, the song is sweet and bubbly, titled “Take On the World,” sung by the show’s teenage stars Rowan Blanchard (who plays Riley Matthews) and Sabrina Carpenter (Maya Hart, Riley’s Shawn Hunter counterpart). But it just doesn’t hold a candle to the oh-so nostalgic “walkin’ down this road that we call life” tune that made Boy Meets World a childhood staple.
Here are the three iterations of the BMW opening credits, for comparison.
Disney also released the entire track for the song.
But the opening credits do give us a broader look into what the show will hold: expectedly, hijinks and heartfelt moments. And apparently, Topanga still rockin’ crimped hair in 2014. You go girl.
Girl Meets World will premiere June 27 at 9:45 p.m. ET on the Disney Channel. The first few episodes will also be available as early as Wednesday for streaming on Disney’s WATCH platform.
If we’re lucky, the Cory-Topanga romance that held the show together so many years ago will translate seamlessly to parenthood, and we will love it. If not, there’s always BMW syndication…
