I Wrote a Song With AI – The Results Were CRAZY!

Hey guys, how's it going? And welcome back to my channel. I hope you're all doing very well. It's been a minute since I've sit down and made one of these like chatty style videos with you guys. I've missed you lots. It feels weird to be here without a guitar on my lap, but we'll pick one up later. Don't worry. So today's video is a little different and I am super excited and also slightly nervous because we are going to be exploring the new innovative world of AI generated music. Now, I know that using artificial intelligence in music literally sounds like the start of a Black Mirror episode, but before we start hoarding our vinyl records and prepping our doomsday bunkers, I want to show you how this tech might actually be really cool. So, today's video is sponsored by one of the leading platforms in music AI creation, and that is Yuo.

Now, I know a lot of you may immediately think, why is she partnering with this company that wants robots to put musicians out of business? So, let me just explain. So, I chose to partner with Yu as they really kind of set themselves apart when it comes to this space. What makes Yo different is that is actually founded by musicians. People who genuinely understand how scary that this tech can feel. Especially like as musicians, we've spent years practicing and perfecting our craft.

You know, music is emotional. It is personal. And yes, it is human. But I think the great thing about Yo is it's not trying to replace that. It's designed to help support the creative process, not automate it. It helps generate ideas, explore new genres, break through creative blocks, everything like that. So, all that to say, in today's video, we are going to be trying something different and we are going to be writing a song with the help of Yuio so you guys can really kind of see some of the features and how you could use it. Okay, so now I have my laptop in front of me on a very dodgy uh music stand because apparently we don't do tables in this house.

And we're going to delve into some of the features that has to offer. So, here we are on the homepage and we're going to go to create. Okay, now we're going to use this cool new feature they've got called upload audio. And we are going to upload Door Die, one of the songs of imposter syndrome. If you haven't got that album yet, check it out on all streaming platforms. Shameless self-plug. Uh, but we are going to select this song.

We're going to do a few different things with it. So, what we're going to do first is we're going to do something called Remix. That was so lame. I'm so sorry you guys had had to see that. So using this remix feature here, it allows you to basically as it says, remix your uploaded audio. So you can change the style, the genre, the mood, you can add lyrics and vocals and a bunch of other stuff. [Applause] We have uploaded do or die here and we're going to give it some prompts. Let's see. Hip hop funk. I could see like some funk going on. I'm going to put horns in. Love some horns. I think it's quite a powerful song. Disco love and we'll just do like pop as well and maybe hip-hop. So, we're going to take this and obviously it's very different. So, we're going to slide it a little bit to more towards the difference scale. Do we want lyrics? So, this is at the moment I think just taking the intro.

Maybe let's do an instrumental for now and see what we get and then I'll show you guys how we can add lyrics a little bit later. So, this is going to generate two tracks for us to check out that are going to be a bit different. So, we have two to pick from. [Music] I loved the horns underneath it. I think that's definitely something really cool that we can experiment with.

[Music] [Applause] [Music] So, I'm going to take this one and we are going to use the extend feature now. So the extend feature basically allows you to add to the music clip that you uploaded or that create you created. So you can add like an intro, an outro, a verse, or basically just build upon that original audio that you uploaded. So now we're going to add a section after and this is where we're going to try and add some vocals.

Okay. So we're going to go on to custom and we're going to use the write for me tool that they've got because you know I can't write lyrics at all. If you are an apt lyricist, then you can just type your own lyrics in here or you can make them write for you and then edit them. Like you have a lot of control over kind of what lyrics you want to uh put down. What is our song about? Doing or dying.

Pretty much sums it up. Okay, now we're going to add some prompts. So I'm going to do female vocalist. And now let's extend this and see what happens. Rise and shine. Ain't no time to waste living at my wild. That was really cool. She is a great singer. So, one really cool thing that you can do with Yuo is you can actually download the stems. So, we got the vocal stem, the drum stem, the bass stem, and anything else. So, we can upload these into Logic or GarageBand or Ableton, whatever kind of software you use and create something completely new with kind of this new inspired idea. So, I'm going to download some of this stuff and then we're going to move to our workspace downstairs. So, I have imported a bunch of the tracks that Yuio made that I quite liked into this Logic project and I'm going to go through them basically kind of try to learn them and then just see what happens creatively.

As always, I'm using Neural DSP Nollie Archetype for my tones in this. [Applause] Okay, so where we're at now is we have recorded the chords to go over this part. And so now I'm thinking I want to add like a top line, maybe bends or something. [Music] [Music] minus the silly facial expressions, maybe. Okay, guys. So, now we have the trusty MIDI keyboard out because we want to add some studio horns into it. We're struggling to make them sound good because I literally never ever use MIDI horns. This is my first time ever doing it and it it just sounds like someone's farting. [Music] How do people get it to sound good? This is kind of what this AI is getting you to do is to step out of your comfort zone a little bit and try things that you wouldn't usually try.

[Applause] [Music] I'm a horn player now. Okay, guys. So now I think we're pretty much done with our AI inspired song. So let's check it out. [Music] No time to waste my heart. Every [Music] night in this moment, Hey guys, I need [Music] [Applause] Okay, so conclusion, thoughts, feelings. Are robots taking over? Let me give you a breakdown of what I think. Honestly, Yuiio actually really really surprised me in the best way. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect as I am also very skeptical of the introduction of AI into music. It feels like this kind of precious thing that we've got that's still human. So, it is a scary thought. But, um, this has kind of shown me that it's not here to take over your studio or write your entire album while you take a nap. Unfortunately, it is here to actually collaborate with you. For me, it actually sparked more creativity. It made me think outside the box and actually helped me come up with stuff I probably would have never ever thought of on my own.

Of course, no AI will ever replace the human soul of music. That rush you get when you like nail this awesome riff or the little like glance you give your drummer and bandmates when you like hit a really really cool lick and you know that like that take was the one. Like AI can't touch that. And that's not what Yo is trying to do. is trying to create more of those moments by helping you get there faster with new ideas and fresh inspiration. To keep it real with you guys, whether we like it or not, this kind of is just the direction that the world is moving. So instead of fighting it, I think it's worth trying to figure out how we can actually make it work for us. So UDIO like actively partners with artists and producers and stuff to understand what kind of future they would like to see for this technology so we can all try and shape that together and make it something less scary and more something that we want to use to improve our craft.

Hey, maybe one day the AI will crack under the pressure of needing to turn out constant bangers spiral into a scandalous life of synthetic substances and robotic rehab and hookers. But until then, your guitar solos are safe for now. [Music].
