The Vagabonds: The Story of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison’s Ten-Year Road Trip

Automotive manufacturing pioneer Henry Ford was close friends with another remarkable American character—Thomas Edison. These two giants of industry spent many summers taking road trips together—introducing the entire concept of the roadtrip to travel-starved Americans. From car camping in 1914 to exploring the Florida Everglades, the small group—which included  naturalist John Burroughs—named themselves the Vagabonds, and along with their their chefs and footmen, hit the road every summer for more than a decade.
