According to a promotional video released by Third World Press, Malcolm X’s diary was “compiled over two trips to Africa and the Middle East.” He “did not miss a day,” recording his travels and interactions.
3. One of Malcolm X’s six daughters, Ilyasah Shabazz, is listed as the book’s co-editor.
She speaks of the diary as a chance to witness Malcolm X in his own words, uninterrupted by historians and scholars. “He contributed so much. He accomplished so much, and I think it’s important to put his work into proper…perspective, and I think this diary is one of them.”
4. Some members of the Shabazz family are against the publication, however, and have filed a lawsuit to keep the diary from being released, claiming that Third World Press does not have the right to publish the diary.
