I remember that era of the mid 80's to early 90's when Dapper Dan's was trendy. He reinvented fashion, however hearing him say that the middle class people did not go to his store because his clothes did not cross over at that point is not accurate. Middle class people could not afford his clothes plain and simple.

Hip hop wasn't born out of gang culture, gangs were around long before hip hop originated however hip hop definitely started in the streets. Not everybody from the streets is part of a gang, they may be part of a "crew" but not everybody is part of a gang, big difference………
